i am running dban at some family intensely asking to "fix computers". one of those computers was all dysfunctional and we use dban to wipe out its two virus-ladden harddiscs. there is an error message on one of them, with supposedly broken sectors. how do i find out what is wrong, can you recommend any software?

error message is something like "scsi device sda: 625142448 512-byte hdwr sectors (320073 mb), sda: write protect is off on port 0xec07 ... doesn't support dpo or fuabnormal status 0xd0 on port ec07

we had to start dban in "noverify"-mode. windows did not start from that harddisc.

thank you so much & best regards

Have you tried using the hard drive's manufacturer's testing software?
