Hard disk not recognized

I replaced the sound card in my HP Vectra VL series 8. The computer will not now recognize the single internal hard drive. I replaced the original card and it still says that there is no hard drive. I have checked all the cables and reseated the card. I used the Windows 98 start-up disk and it writes to the virtual disk, but still says there is no hard drive. In Setup it says, "None" following the "IDE Primary Master Device" heading.

Any help would be appreciated.
