Hard drive issue

I installed a different hard in a dell computer and used the dell reinstallation cd. Now in order to boot the cd must stay in the drive. I get a error message on black screen saying there's no boot device. The harddrive is a maxtor 40gb.

Your hard drive is bad. Buy a new hard drive. That one will play games with you, but it is long past warranty and long past reliability.
