hard drive only 1.99GB

  1. Im trying to install win 95 on a new 40 gb hard drive.. when i do fdisk. it only had 1.99. so i hooked the HD to my comp with WINXP. and it also said only 1.99 available.??

    Two reasons.

    The computer you tried to install WIndows 95 on doesn't support drives bigger than 2GB.
    You have an eraly version of WIndows 95, that does not support FAT32 and cannot handle partitions bigger than 2GB.

    Check what size BIOS thinks your disk is. Make sure your Windows 95 version is later than OEM SR2.

    i have this problem on my old computer in my sig

    POST says 3,555mb but windows only shows 1.99gbs, its running windows 98se

    its an etower 500is, bios is very simple, is there a jumper or any thing i may have looked over
