i recently got a new hard drive..a QUANTIUM FIREBALLP AS 40.0
when i boot up, when it's detecting the IDE devices, it detects that normally, when i restart...it detects these weird symbols....which are pretty long too, is there something wrong wtih this??
    plz help, greatly appreciated

Weird symbols usually means the jumper settings you have set for it are wrong.

Ensure that the hard drive's jumper settings are correct. Two masters on a single IDE channel can create this problem, for example. Your drives should be master AND slave, or cable select. If you have a single drive on a single cable, it should be set to master.

Other things that cause a jumble of symbols to appear may include faulty disk, bad IDE cable or a bad IDE controller, which I hope none of this is the case.
