I have a Dell XPS 400 with what I believe is a corrupted hard drive. Replace drive with 160gb WD. Started to go through installation of XP, everything was going fine then message came up. unable to locate hard drive, if you have a disk from manufacturer use it.

Now when I power on all I get is a black screen with blinking cursor in upper left corner. Any help??

So what is it IDE or SATA? If it is IDE there are 3 positions for you to place a jumper. A jumper is a little piece of plastic placed in the back of the drive where the power and interface (flat) cable attach. The 3 positions are M, S and CS. There is a diagram or M, S and CS marked near the back or top of the drive
