Hi i have a 250GB hard drive in my system that is my main OS windows 7 on it and it has recently started squealing and i tested to see if it happened randomly or when the hard drive was being used so what i did is everytime i clicked on a new windows in google chrome it squealed so im not sure it that is normal but when i play wow it randomly squeals a lot and then just shuts down the whole system and im not sure if i still have warranty on the HDD as i got it 20days ago from ebuyer and my system spec is:-
2.4GHZ Quad Core Q6600
4GB DDR2 Ram Dual Channel
8800GT GFX
1 Seagate ST3250318AS 250GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 8MB Cache - OEM
P5n7a-vm

Back up everything NOW. You could possibly looking at a failing harddrive and once they crash the recovering of data is an expensive process.

Go to Seagate's website and find their free harddrive diagnosic utility called Seatools. Burn it to a CD, place it in your DVD drive and reboot (you may have to plac your DVD drive as Firsat Bootable in the BIOS to have this work). The test will almost immediately take over after boot-up. Run SMART, the Short DST, and especially the Long DST.
