Have you tried putting back the old one to see if it works or not?
Have you check any connectors (if any) to see if the are well fitted?
Do you feel the hdd spinnig?

Sorry mate that is a bad hd, but before we come to that conclusion, i suggest getting an external reader for IDE -> USB to test it and see it it works...
That will lead us to our final conclusion...
hi robin ive just moved the jumper plug in the hard drive but it didnt work so i took it of now the bois has detected it but when i try to recovry it using the cd is says "bootmgr" missing
That means that its trying to boot off the Hdd but it can't find the boot manager and that means that you r trying to install windows Vista or 7.
Try using an installation cd and not a recovery cd...
