Hardware or software

Ok, here is where I am, I went back and reseated all my connections to the PSU and it must have work, I can now boot to the Windows logo screen. I let it run for awhile and it get to where I can log on. Rebooted and now it is at the windows logo screen and frozen again. All new hardward seem to be working but getting to the log on screen takes awhile. Is that hardware or software?

OK, as I've been saying, this particular computer can't be restored with a standard Windows disc, you must use the Emachine recovery disc that came with the machine.

This is a disc that was supposed to be created when the machine was first purchased.

It's not a floppy disc, It doesn't have anything to do with a floppy disc. It's a DVD that the computer would allow you to make one and only one copy of, with the DVD burner.

Now for some back story; a "restore" disc is actually what is known as a "disc image". It contains the operating system, the board drivers, and the "value added" software, all on one disc. It should be capable of taking a blank, brand new, unformatted, HDD and make it the same as if it was installed by the factory. But, as I said before, this particular "disc image" / "restore disc", is specific to an Emachines T-5026. So, you really need the correct restore disc, before you can continue. Believe it or not, this could come to the point where you possibly have to buy a new board and a copy of Windows, if you can't come up with the correct restore disc. Sorry to report.

OK, I know you don't want a lecture, but unless the original hard drive was bad, you just should have plugged the new HDD into another SATA socket, formatted it, and used it for "volume" storage. Computers are way safer with respect to data protection if you keep all your data files OFF the system drive, which should mostly have the just the OS and installed programs.

At the moment, it seems that you have a software issue, Windows isn't showing you the desktop, it's hanging.

Now, do you have the restore >>DVD<< for this computer?

Yes, either a XP Repair or a complete fresh XP install is needed. We will call this a software issue now

Captain cranky and Tmagic650, thank you for you patience. This is where I stand so far, I reseated all the cables and now I am able to get where I was in the beginning except for one thing, it booted good then when I tried it again, only got to the windows logo again for over and hour then I get the BSOD. Now, Captain, I do not have a floppy disk on my tower, just an external one. My system does not have a USB boot in BIOS so I need help figuring out how to fix the software problem.
