I found this site while searching on google my only problem was people where looking for XP drivers.

I can not get sound on my laptop its a Gateway ML3109 on Vista not XP.

    The file I got says

double-clicked the file D20007-003-001 , files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\D20007-003-001 folder on the
    hard drive.

I looked everywhere on my computer and I can't find this folder

I would re-instal Vista to get sound but my cd drive doesn't work and I can't boot it from my external cd drive. I think I need step by step instructions on how to finally get sound back on my computer.

Vista is directly supported by Gateway on their support site.
Just select Notebook, ML-series, MS3109 and you can then select the Vista version, which will show you the audio driver download link.
It is a sigmatel audio driver, and I think the file you need there is called "Audio_Sigmatel_6.10.5337.0_Vistax64Vistax86_A.zip".

    Have you tried that one?
