Having trouble with my sound.

I will be watching a video on the computer then suddenly my sound goes out. I will sit there for a while and wait for the sound to come back on and after waiting for along time it does. I cheaked all the wires and they are plugged in correctly. What else could be wrong and how can I fix it?

Faulty speakers, faulty soundcard, swap both out and see if it stops..

Someone told me to do this

"Check and update all your soundcard drivers.

if its an expansion card, goto the vendors website and download the latest drivers for it,

if its onboard sound, goto the motherboard vendors website and download the most recent audio drivers.

thats the first thing to check."

But I'm confused on what to do. How do I find this motherboard and expansion card stuff?
