Hello Games says No Man's Sky is not finished "by a long shot"

In context: Despite having received its 19th massive content update on Wednesday, No Man's Sky is far from finished—at least according to Hello Games CEO and NMS creator Sean Murray. Considering how far the game has come and how happy fans are with it, that's quite a statement. Most feel HG has gone above and beyond what was expected, but it has much more in store.

Sean Murray spoke with IGN on Wednesday, just after the release of the Sentinels expansion, regarding the direction of the game and the amount of content the team has put out post-launch. Murray noted that the more features they add, the more ideas they get for other things.

"[For] as many updates as we've done since launch and as many bucket list items we've checked off, our list of things we're excited about never seems to get any shorter," said the studio head. "The team are [sic] always coming up with new things that they want to do with the game: new content and features and areas for improvement. We tend not to talk about what's on that list publicly but suffice to say we're not done yet by a long shot."

He also confirmed that the studio has another game in the works. Murray didn't reveal much about it other than saying that it was another ambitious title like No Man's Sky but is not a sequel. He declined to comment any more on it, stating that "we've learned our lesson" (with NMS) regarding speaking too early in a game's production.

So it appears that Hello Games is quite busy these days—massive content expansions for No Man's Sky with more to come, a Nintendo Switch port coming this summer, and a brand new game in the early development stages. Let's hope the small studio—it only had 26 employees at last count in 2020—can juggle that many balls without dropping them.

Ok Sean but why did you take both Sony's and customer's money if the game was so many years away from what you intended?

Murray shouldn't get a free pass because he's committed to many years of free upgrades because I don't believe in this selfless atonement for his past lies: he desperately wants people to change their perspective on both him as a serious dev and No man's sky because he has a probably rather profitable career to pursue in gaming by doing so:

He also confirmed that the studio has another game in the works. Murray didn't reveal much about it other than saying that it was another ambitious title like No Man's Sky but is not a sequel

At the end of they day we shouldn't forget that he's an example of why nobody should trust indie games that decide to take on major publisher deals: they quickly *become* the same type of scumbags we know from those AAA publishers and release broken, incomplete games that don't fulfill even 10% of the promised features and such.

The only surefire way to create good games is to have developers allowed the freedom and time to produce as good a product as possible. Factor in voice actors, contract negotiations and other development slowdowns, and you start throwing wrenches into products which otherwise didn't exist.

What you end up with is either a product rushed to market by a corporation to satisfy a schedule or an independent product that claims it's starved for funding or time and requires either more funding or more time - but has no solid deadline or time constraint.

I haven't given NMS a penny, nor would I. I'll wait next to the finish line for a finished product while everyone else pours money into the hole.

They released a shell of a game and progressively made it to what it should've been. The issue was all the lying and the fact they took money before having the finished product. That's why I find it hard to trust them, gamer cattle should not forget.

So,....the suckers bought an unfinished game, and happy with it? And the developer even had the guts to shamelessly say it's not even finished by a long shot? Strange times, we live in.

Omg the hate here is unbelievable.
In took them only one year to give everything that promised at launch.
Since then every update has added extra content for the fans. They have gone way and beyond what they promised when they launched the game.
Yes they did promise some features which wasn't there at launch. But they took the feedback and acted on it and made the game in a piece of art.
They are one of only a few games that's true cross platform,
And the fact the amount of work of goes into major update they could put a small charge on it and the fans would pay for it.
The game is fantastic and for anyone like the above who posted hate hasn't done any research on the game at all.
Yes they f***Ed up at the launch but they have 200% made up for that gave every promised feature and beyond.
Next time haters do your own research instead of thinking that this is an unfinished game.
This is a game that just keeps evolving and getting better.
Give it a try it's free on game pass people come and join us in hello games masterpiece

This is the future of games isn't it?

they take years to develop and need crazy amounts of money, so just keep adding content to a title, I honestly dont see a problem with that if the foundational game was great.

Funny, most of the stuff promised still doesnt exist in the game, and the trailers still use pre rendered footage to advertise it. But to a shill (or 10 year old) it must be game of the century

The "haters" "did their own research" and concluded the game was awash with broken promises and half baked ideas. Sorry to burst your bubble.

The game doesn't cost any money if you have it on gamepass. Also it's a great game with tons of things to do. You are salty for no reason.
