Help connecting a router to a router

Ok, first off, I am sure that this has been asked before, and YES, I have looked...but have not been successful in finding an answer that helps me.

Anyway....Just moved, and I am trying to connect my wired router (D-Link EBR-2310) to the router upstairs (unsure as to the make/model, it is white and wired/wireless, although the wireless from it is terrible) so I can run my xbox and my PC.

Is it possible to configure my router in a way that I don't have to fiddle with the other router? I am unsure as to how the owner of it would appreciate it.

Have you tried the normal connections; his wire going to your WAN port?

The sole issue should be a possible conflict of addresses (his vs. yours), in which case

disconnect the two routers, connect one system to your router.
now access the router config page and set the router to a new address range,
eg 10.10.10.1
save the settings which should restart the device and disconnect from your browser.

Connect the two routers, wait 30 seconds, and then use your browser to access
www.google.com

If it works, you're good to go.
