    You won't be running RAID 0, nor RAID 1. You are not using RAID at all. You need to disable the RAID controller (the two unused connectors) on your mainboard. That may require that you change a bios setting to do this, or it may require some jumper, or switch, settings on you mainboard.

    Unfortunately I don't have a copy of your mainboard manual to hand, so you'll need to try and find this info by reading the manual. I'll see if I can find anything on the web, but you should see what you can discover yourself in the meantime.

    Edit: I just downloaded a copy of your mainboard manual, and it would appear that the ATA100 setting is the non-raid setting and is the default for your mainboard. So don't change anything just yet.

    jwiddi,

    I think you can ignore the "Ultra100 Bios not installed because no drives are attached" message as it should matter. This message is normal as you don't have any hard drives attached to the promise ide channels. I'm not sure why windows hangs on your computer, but I know that I get a similar problem with my promise controller (non-raid pci card), when no drives are attached. I don't think there is anything wrong with your setup, so I suggest you try installing windows again, leaving your system as is. Forget about the F6 thing during setup as you're not using those promis ide connectors. Hopefully your system will boot this time around, as really I can't think of much else you could do short of getting a second hard drive to attach to one of those promise ide ports.

    i've been looking, and no luck on how to disable raid. what if I plugged in a second hard drive to the blue (primary ATA100) controller? just a thought...

    Read my post ... that would be worth a go and may stop windows from hanging.

    i switched the plug of my hard drive from primary IDE to the blue primary ATA100 (promise) controller. the BIOS detected a drive, but warned that since i'm using a 40 conductor cable, it would slow to ATA33 speed? if i put another hard drive into that connector with an 80 conductor cable, what would that do? would i set the second drive to slave?

    If you only have one hard drive, then don't put it on the promise controller.

    If you have a second hard drive, then it can be either master or slave, it doesn't matter provided it is the only drive on that cable. Personally, I always set all my hard drives to 'cable select' then I don't have to worry about it. If you have a proper 80 wire cable (ata-100 cable), then use it, otherwise things should still work, but your hard drive will feel a little slower. If you still can't boot, then you should try reinstalling windows.

    thanks for your help guys...seems that loading the OP onto my hard drive on another system caused the error. I still get the Ultra100 bios not installed error, but windows boots now. BUT....a new problem has arose.
    Now when I turn on the system, I get:
    "WARNING: Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent."
    "SMART failure predicted on primary master

    What the heck is that? can I get this corrected?

    Also, the display is only in 16 colors, It says I don't have drivers for a mass storage unit, or video card....HELP ME

    You'd better get another hard drive and back up your data as that drive is about to fail. Don't use that drive at all until you have somewhere to store your data. You can't fix it as it is the drive electronics that generate SMART failure warnings. Also, that was pretty dumb thing to do (sorry), installing your OS on another system, then expecting it to work in your current system.

    hey, you live and learn right? the hard drive I bought is brand new...is there any other explanation for that error?
  10. Nic TechSpot Paladin

    No. You can always wait until it fails permanently if you prefer. Send it back and get it replaced.

    do you have an a7v 133 board?

    If you determine that you do not need RAID or any component associated with the Ultra 100 BIOS it can be disabled without concern.

    Enter AwardBIOS Setup Utility by hitting the delete button at bootup;
    go to "Boot" section of the utility;
    scroll down to "Load Onboard ATA BIOS" and hit enter;
    select "Disable", save and exit Utility.

    The message "Ultra 100 bios not installed" will no longer appear because you have instructed the computer not to look for any components associated with it.
