I am at a loss as to the excite problem. It shouldn't be anything we have done but you never know.

This tool will get rid of everything unnecessary that we have installed.

Please download OTMoveIt by OldTimer OTMoveIt.exe and place it on your desktop.

1. Double click OTMoveIt.exe to launch it.
2. Click on the CleanUp! button.
3. OTMoveIt will download a list from the Internet, if your firewall or other defensive programs alerts you, allow it access.
4. You will be prompted to allow the clean up procedure, click Yes
5. When finished exit out of OTMoveIt

unnecessary programs

Thanks for the cleanup tool to remove the extra programs. The good news is the dog is still gone, but I still have several of the programs installed and have questions about which to uninstall, if any:

WinPatrol - do I need it and should I keep it running all the time?

HJT - Do I need it, and should I still call it Crusty? When should I run it?

CC Cleaner - Do I need & when to run?

AVG AntiSpyware - Do I need & when to run?

Spybot Search & Destroy - Do I need & when to run?

Spyware Blaster - Do I need & when to run?

The file deldomains.inf, and all the log files...is it OK to delete them all now?

As for the excite issue, I used youhide.com and was able to get to mail.excite.com but couldn't log on because it said I had cookies and/or javascript disabled. I couldn't find how to make that work.

WinPatrol Keep it, it runs in the background and will alert you to any suspicious activities.

CC Cleaner Run it once a week or so to clean up and optimize the computer.

AVG AntiSpyware, Spybot Search & Destroy Keep them, run a different one every other week or at least once a month.

Spyware Blaster Keep it and check for updates every other week.

HJTKeep it or uninstall it in add/remove programs. You can always download it again if needed.

deldomains.inf, and all the log filesDelete anything left over.

As for the excite issue You might want to make a post in the Windows forum and see if they know anything about it over there. if they try to send you back to this forum say you have been cleared of malware already. Sorry i just don't know why unless the site has blocked your IP address for some reason.

maybe excite problem is still malware

I posted my excite.com problem in the Windows forum and here's what I got back:

It sounds like your malware problem is still there.

You need to have a read of this - If your system is infected. Read this before deciding whether to CLEAN or REFORMAT.

Then if you should wish to proceed with cleaning your system you need to go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, Combofix, and AVG Antispyware logs as ATTACHMENTS into a new thread in the Security and the Web forum, only after doing the above.
We also need to know the result of Panda Antirootkit.

Don't post your logs here as it is the wrong forum for malware problems.
