Many great entrepreneurs exhibit interests in their craft at a very early age; Elon Musk is no exception. Before cofounding PayPal and launching other endeavors like Tesla and SpaceX, a pre-teen Musk was apparently building video games.

As a 12-year-old living in South Africa, Musk wrote code for a game called Blastar. The space-themed title borrowed heavily from classics like Asteroids and Space Invaders and was eventually sold to the magazine PC and Office Technology for $500.

Long story short, Google software engineer Tomas Lloret recently got ahold of the original code and rebuilt the game for HTML5. What this means is that now virtually anyone can play it right in their web browser.

The game is incredibly simple (keep in mind that this was built by a 12-year-old in 1984) as there are never more than two ships on screen. Sound effects and controls are equally pedestrian but it’s neat to see that Musk was interested in space from a very early age.

True, but to be fair, almost all boys are interested in space. Far fewer can make a video game.

He got $500 for that?!? It's like he could generate money from thin air from a young age.

Indeed, which taking into account inflation would equal around $1,000 to $1,500. Not bad for a 12 year old.
