  1. Hi:

I'm in the process of cleaning up my wife's machine. Attached is the HijackThis file after running though the procedure for cleanup.

Feedback on what else can be cleaned up is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John

You have no infections on that PC, but you can boot in safe mode,
run HJT and 'fix' any of these O4 that you don't use/require.
DO 'fix' the O9 and O16 though.
And do NOT delete any of those 'fixed' files!

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EAPCISetup] c:\windows\SYSTEM\wizard.exe c:\windows\SYSTEM
-- Part of the Creative Soundblaster PIC Installation Wizard. Probably left as a result of a failed installation
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPScanPatch] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HPScanFix.exe
-- Automatically fixes earlier versions of Scanjet 5100c software. If not used anymore, remove.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OEMCleanup] C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\OEMRESET.EXE
-- Resets OEM installation settings at bootup. Not required unless you're new to PC's
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mdac_runonce] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\runonce.exe
-- Associated with MS Data Access Components (MDAC). Sometimes left over after installation - not required.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE
-- System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [COMSMDEXE] comsmd.exe -off
    -- 3Com tray icon
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CriticalUpdate] c:\windows\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe -startup
-- Windows Critical Update Notification. If you want to keep Windows up-to-date (W98 no longer supported by MS)
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [EncMonitor] C:\Program Files\Encompass\Monitor.exe
-- This is the Connect Direct Program. It is more trouble than it is worth and few use it
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {4ED9DDF0-7479-4BBE-9335-5A1EDB1D8A21} (McAfee.com Operating System Class) - http://download.mcafee.com/molbin/shared/mcinsctl/en-us/4,0,0,90/mcinsctl.cab
    O16 - DPF: {BCC0FF27-31D9-4614-A68E-C18E1ADA4389} (DwnldGroupMgr Class) - http://download.mcafee.com/molbin/shared/mcgdmgr/en-us/1,0,0,23/mcgdmgr.cab
