i recetly downloaded a thing called media codec, from a site with a similar name, since then i have recieved many pop up messages from the system tray of my computer. there is a yellow triangle with various messages popping up. i found the files atmclk.exe to be responsible as well as dcomfg.exe, but i have failed to remove the virus after numerous attempts. pls pls can u help me. i hear the virus i have is called spyfalcon, although i cant locate any such thing on my computer.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

atmclk.exe

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: Nothing - {b0398eca-0bcd-4645-8261-5e9dc70248d0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpC11D.tmp

Fix all 016-DPF entries.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2669F00E-D6DF-46FD-8E67-61378ADC805A}: NameServer = 212.159.13.50 212.159.13.49 Only fix this, if it doesn`t belong to your ISP.

O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files(if there).

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpC11D.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atmclk.exe

Reboot into normal mode and turn system restore back on.

thnx mate for ur help. it seems to have done the job nicely, ill let u know if it pops back it has a habit of coming back with a vengance! lol ! oh one more thing i didnt get rid of O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2669F00E-D6DF-46FD-8E67-61378ADC805A}: NameServer = 212.159.13.50 212.159.13.49 as i dont know what it is or if it is related to my isp. is there a way i can check?

The easiest way to check if it`s legit, is to let HJT fix it. If your internet then doesn`t work, just follow these simple instructions to restore the 017 entry.

Run HJT and click on the config button. Click on the Backups button. Tick the little box next to the entry you wish to restore and click on the restore button.

Reboot your computer.

All is well

thnx again Howard, everything seems to be running well this afternoon. i checked out the 017 entry and it was my internet so nothing to worry about!!!
