  1. I have an old PC here that I am trying to wipe clean and reinstall Windows XP onto. Before I can do this, however, I need the driver for the old HDD that's been installed. It's a Hitachi Deskstar 7k250 part# hds722580vlsa80. I have been searching all day and I can't find one anywhere. I realize that it's dated technology, but I am hoping someone can help.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

You're looking for the wrong driver, sort of. You really want the motherboard SATA controller driver. When installing XP onto a SATA hard drive, you need to install the SATA/RAID driver at the F6 prompt at the beginning of Windows Setup but you need a floppy drive for this. If you don't have a floppy, you can make a slipstream CD with the SATA driver included. There are plenty of guides on the internet on how to make them.
