How many boot sectors have I

  1. I have a multi boot system with XP on two of my four partitions. The partitions with no o/s I use for storing documents.
    Q. how many boot sectors do I have, have I one on each partition or only on the partitions with an o/s installed on them.

    One MBR in cylinder 0, Head 0, sector 0; this sector can not be remapped - - it is always read first

    There is also a "boot" sector (relative sector 0) in each partition. You can see this
    in operation when
    1) the MBR may have a multi boot option and when you select one
    2) you get a secondary choice, eg Linux kernel choice A vs B
