How to reinstall XP after a BSOD

My PC crashed due to a virus [Vundo, I think.] When I start it, it is always a Black Screen of Death and then it restarts. When I try to reinstall it, I always do not receive a boot prompt. I always get a "Start Windows Normally" prompt because it always restarts, always with the BSOD and over and over again.

How to re-install XP properly? I've only got an XP CD and this is from a friend...

What is the extent of the crash?
Can you access Safe Mode?
Do you have or can you get a flash drive?

You might not have to reinstall if we can find and remove all of the malware

Severe. I cannot access Safe Mode. When I start it up, it prompts "Because Windows did not start successfully" or so. Then it goes the Black Screen of Death, really. And it keeps repeating again and again.

I have a D:// drive, and a floppy one. I don't have a flash drive.
