okay pushing the 4 pins to the motherboard was easy enough...but i just bought a new CPU fan and I have no idea how to take out the pins without breaking the board. any help here would be much appreciated

It's an Intel Pentium D 830 with the stock fan and um..the motherboard is ECS don't know if that info is really necessary..but whatever

Turn the legs 1/4 turn to release the clips ... they should jump loose.

With what (make & model) are you replacing the stock cooler with? You do realise that if you do not use the stock cooler you invalidate your warranty ...

Make sure you turn the new cooler the right way - it should seat so well that it seems to suck onto the chip.
