HP 5150 printer will not turn off. Status light is also on

The HP Deskjet 5150 printer will not turn off.
The status display is always on.
I have removed the ink cartridges (one is new) and problem is still there.
I have recycled power on the printer and the laptop.
I have tried to use HPPDU to check it but that wont connect either.
Any ideas?

The internal logic or power supply may have gone bad. Time for a new printer?

Took unused ink back to Best Buy for $89 refund. For $13 more I got an Epson Worforce 633 (regular $199, on sale for $99).
