try to access the "one time boot menu" by pressing f12 during the dell post screen. this would let you choose the device to boot from.

Didn't work, it did say for a few seconds loading one time boot menu but then went to the grey screen, however now when its switched on it wont even boot into windows now just comes up with the grey screen, thats worse lol, will removing the bios battery make it go back to booting into windows??? i should just have left it alone and re-installed an OS from within windows

I cannot boot from CD DVD Floppy doesn`t have one and USB also does not work, I believe because of the Config which I cannot change. And I dont want to erase the HDD.

your post doesn't really make sense. if the hdd is the only bootable device you have why would you want to unlock any other drive? if you don't have any other drive how would you install a new os? why would you install a new os if you don't want to delete the hdd? what would it change if you replace the chip? sorry, but this is senseless....

what you describe does not make sense either. calling the one time boot menu does not enable the system password. I guess you were not telling us the truth about what password you really need. sorry, can't help with that. call dell and get a masterpassword if you are the legal owner of this laptop.

Is it possible to just replace the 24C02 chip with one from a memory chip for example?

No, that will do nothing to resolve your problem, even it the change did work. The CPU has nothing to do with the EEPROM that has the password recorded in it.
The system we have is designed to work to prevent theft. We all support it.

You can register yourself as the new owner at Dell, wait 21 to 42 days, then request the password fix.

pavilion bios password

I posted the wrong info on my laptop here is the right info
HP Pavilion n5190 hash code is 07941, I was hoping some could help me with a back door password.

Thank You!!!

Dell does if you are the legal owner, and their rates are lower.

Thanks for your advice, and I have actually read over your previous posts. I was just hoping to hear from somebody who has had some personal experience with spunlock. Or do you know anybody who has dealt with them before? Sorry, but I just wanted some reassurance before I deal with a complete stranger.

Dell is a last resort for me, because I am not the original owner. (In fact there are several original owners! I am attempting to build this machine out of recycled parts from several broken computers). Even if they somehow could do a transfer of ownership on just the motherboard and provide me with customer support on just that piece, I'd rather spend a $30 extra rather than wait the 21-42 days for that transfer to complete. This is why I am considering spunlock.

Thanks for your help!

I'd rather spend a $30 extra rather than wait the 21-42 days
It's not just the cost (which is lower at Dell)
It's the fact that the laptop will then be registered to you fully.

The scenario is you go out and spend more than you should on a password
The matter hopefully is resolved in 24 Hrs
Then a month down the track it happens again ! (who knows why? Maybe you want to change the HardDrive in the future, or maybe it just locks again - they seem to do that!)

Anyway, if you had gone through and registered at Dell, the cost may be zero (seeming its only been a month)
But if didn't register it to you, then gues what ? It's double your cost again

So I'd register the parts (I mean the Motherboard, or rather laptop) with Dell

not sure but spunlock will cost you more than $30. as far as I heared they are reliable but who knows.
as for the owner problem of yours. you need to get the ownership for the motherboard only then. this is where the service tag and the password protection is. nobody at dell's is interested in giving you ownership on a cd drive or lcd or battery, lol. you should take the dell step and you will never ever have problems again. if I were you I would also try to get an extended support for (not sure) $39 and let them repair the other parts as well. you can make the laptop a brand new one with a little money. but its still your choice...

Damn my reply to that, is now a page back :(

But anyway, the answer was Dell will be better (in a lot more words)

The Bios Configuration was password protected, I was hoping to change the Boot device to USB to be able to boot NT Password from a USB stick to erase the Admin Password of Win XP The replacing of the chip worked the Service Tag is gone and also all passwords set in the BIOS are gone. Unfortunatelly it seems that the C400 cannot boot from USB, so I have to think about another way to crack the OS or how to install a new XP on it with no HDD no CD drive no Floppy and no way to boot from USB .... will be a hard one probably I have to try to get a external CD drive...

Well, I filled in the form of international tag transfer at Dells site. This took 2.5 weeks!
Then I phoned Dell support in Denmark, where I come from. They told me that the tag transfer had gone through, but that it will take up to 2 weeks to give me the master password, because it has to come from Sweden...?
So if you're not pressed for time (Unlike me) then this is the way to go! And the laptop is now fully registered in my name! :)

as far as I know the main dell centre for scandinavia is in sweden and its only them dealing with password requests for all over scandinavia. usually it should not take more then 24 hours to get the password from the swedish office to the danish but who knows... maybe they had more important things to do at this time.

Hi everyone,
I am trying to reset, delete the BIOS passwords for a DELL C400 so I can configure the boot devices.
I can access the BIOS but I cannot change anything because it has a Configure password, which I don`t know.
DELL charges me money for the master password. Which I don`t want.
The Laptop has no drives at all, no floppy, no cd/dvd drive.
So I cannot boot from any device, also pressing F12 does not work out for me because I cannot choose my USB stick to boot from.

To do this I need the master password.
Service Tag is : 5B6PG0J-595B

I already tried to short the 24C02W6 chip on the back of the mainboard, but it did not work, the computer does not start when the chip is shortened.
The only option that I see is:
Does it work to change the chip to a new one?

"Please help me!!"
Thanks in advance.
shorting the chip is not the right way to do it. replacing it would be like doing surgery on your own. p.m. me on solution.

Does anybody have experience using the www.spunlock.com service that the Paragon website recommends? Are they prompt and legitimate?

I think I'm going to give them a try because, from what I can tell, they are the only site that offers unlocking services for laptops in the D420/D620/D630/D820 range.

Thanks!
they're in russia, i think. that's what they say on their website. try this one:
link removed
cheers

Thanks so much for all the advice. I was under the impression that the master password is a quick fix, and once I have it everything is open (or can be opened using the tools on Paragon's site).

But what's this about the hard disk password? Does what you're saying mean there will be "assigned" a hard drive password even if I use my own (non-Dell) hard disk?

I'm still considering spunlock or Laptopcity (another website with good ebay feedback), but the Dell alternative is sounding not that bad. It's just that over the years I've heard a number of horror stories about their CS. But from what you're saying they sound reasonable. Just to clarify though, the repairs that the extended support package for $39 provides certainly aren't going to be free! I'll need to pay Dell rates for those repairs and services if I need them in the future, correct?

My example was if the drive (or system I mean) locked again within the month
But your question on what to pay if it locks again
1. Under warranty -- A free Motherboard !!
2. Outside warranty - a 24Hr turn around service (since you would be registered)

Not only that, you will receive complete support instantly in future as the registered owner. (yes payments may vary over time)
But the sites that you are posting, as alternative options, are for this issue right now, and nothing else. And...

Dell is the cheapest method

Therefore, why would you go elsewhere?
Unless it's stolen, or you're a bit dumb! (I can't think of anything else)

Hangon, unless you are one of the users getting payments from the ignorant
Than god for me and mscrx and Obi, and 99% of other members who will inform members not to purchase passwords outside Dell support

No thanks to you though it seems! (As you keep posting alternatives, why?)

Early this morning (9:30 AM local time...) A DELL supporter phoned me and told me that he had my Master password for me! It was only yesterday he told me it might take up to 2 weeks. I entered the password and it accepted it! Then it went straight to hte HDD-password. next the supporter then has to ask Sweden for a HDD-pass for me, but since I had an extra HDD lying around, my D600 is now up and runnig! It took less then 3 weeks and at no other charge for me except my phone bill!
I think that's OK!!!
