    Having trouble connecting a 722c with an older computer using a parallel cable. Before reformatting the disks and installing Win ME this machine used this printer directly and more recently on a network. I've got the latest drivers from HP but I keep getting a message that the computer and printer cannot communicate. Any ideas?

    Uninstall the printer-driver and delete the directory where it was installed.
    Disconnect the printercable from the PC.
    Reboot, go into BIOS, find the LPT1 settings. Make sure they are set to ECP and using DMA 3, 5 or 1. Save and exit.
    Boot into Windoze. Now switch off your antivirus/firewall software and all the programs that have little icons in your System Tray.
    Now install your HP-drivers first and then the printer.
