HP Touchsmart tx2 laptop -- damaged GPU

Good day all,

I currently own an HP Touchsmart tx2 laptop which is currently only about 19 months old. Recently when I tried to start the laptop, the screen stayed blank, all the lights on the laptop flashed on and a couple of the lights kept flashing on and off. I took it to a repair technician who said that the Graphics chip on the motherboard was burnt out and the most convinient option was to buy a new laptop. So here is my problem:
- What is the possiblility of having the chip, or the motherboard replaced?
- If the motherboard is replaced, do I need to buy a new processor or can the current one be used?
- Also, what is the general price of the motherboard and are there any decent website that offer them for sale?
- Lastly, if I do need to get a new laptop, what are the good touch screen laptops (11 inch screens - I like them small - and not an apple product)?

Hope someone can help me out.

Look on EBay for the exact motherboard. The part number is usually on a tag under or near the memory. The memory is under a panel at the bottom or under the keyboard. You can use the memory and CPU from the old board

Have you done anything with this yet?

Your repairman is very honest as most of them i know would try to reflow the gpu and charge you for it.

You can try this yourself at home though the length of time it lasts is quite unpredicatable.
