Huge FPS drops in NFS MW

Ok so I have a HD6950 unlocked with a 6970 bios, and I can play almost any game maxed out. But for some reason in Need for speed most wanted(one of my favorite games) The Frame rate goes from 85 to 1 in a second and back up to 85 again! It does that constantly! And it can be very annoying! Is there any way to fix this or will I just have to live with it?. P.S. my specs are:

i7 950 @ 3.8 ghz
6 GB of ram
HD6950 Unlocked
1tb boot drive

I don't see any apparent reason why your system wouldn't run that game maxed out.
Have you updated all of your drivers? Also check if your graphics card driver has any known compatibility issues with that game.
As a last resort you could try de-clocking your graphics card to see if that fixes the issue (if that's possible, I don't really know...).
I don't really have any other suggestions, maybe run a virus/malware scanner sometime, see if that delivers results.
