My computer wont format my CD-R. It was working fine, then a message came up saying "windows was unable to complete format". I have tried several different disks, and none work. What could be the problem?
My computer automatically asks what you want to do with the disk as soon as I put it in. I select "burn files to disk". Then it goes straight to formatting. I have also ignored the prompt and open the disk through "my computer" and dragged the files to the disk. It tells me to "Prepare this disk" then continues to format. And again, I get the message that "Windows cannot complete the format". Could I be missing software?
A couple of thoughts:
1. If you are missing software it would be a windows file. Try a file run SFC /scannow. you will need your OS Cd to do this.
2. Your CDR may have died. The normal response for a bad floppy drive when you insert a floppy is "Do you want to format your disk?"
