I can't view the system log, please help!

When I click on the system log in the Event Viewer, a window pop up saying " the event log file is corrupt " If anyone knows how to troubleshooting it, please reply to me. thank you

The file is system.log in the windows\system32\config folder. However you cannot access the file while windows is running, even in safe mode.
The only way I know how to get to this is to access the contents of the hard drive either from another O/S boot or by taking the drive out and connecting it to another PC. Once you have access you can copy it, rename it or whatever. There must be a better way - anyone any ideas?
