    can i contact microsoft to get my same or a new product key for free? if not, is there anyone who used to play halo and has a product key that they don't use? have any other suggestions?

    Contact Microsoft but I honestly doubt that will work (throwing away a key is not a valid replacement justification). If that doesn't work, look on eBay or some such websites for a 2nd hand license.
