    I meant to ask this previously> you have changed the logon screen to Life.exe I'm having a hard time identifying this> Half-life? Second-Life? Or other?

    As for the page file, the starting setting for this is usually 1.5 time the Total RAM. How much Total RAM do you have installed?

    In order for malware to have been an issue in this length of time, the system would have had to inundated with malware. It isn't. While there may be some malware entries, your logs so far don't indicate this.

    Sorry for the late reply. :)

    Yes, I have changed my logon screen to this 'life.' However, I haven't seen the 'Half-life' or 'Second-life' you were talking about.

    As of this moment, I only have 256MB of RAM installed. I do plan on buying one more RAM card in the future.

    ESET did not find anything. No log appeared.

    Sorry- internet was down-again!

    I think the RAM-or lack of- is the problem. You need at least 512mb of RAM to run Win XP decently.

    Page file should be 1.5 of total RAM or 3.84 (1.5?)
    [Start] right click [My Computer] click [Properties]
    Click [Advanced] tab then click [Settings] in the [Performance] section
    Click the [Advanced] tab and then click [Change] under the [Virtual Memory] section
    [IMG]

    The image above with show the minimum setting for the drive. You only have 256mb of RAM. Setting the page file to 300mb takes all of the available RAM away. Reset the page file lower and see what different it makes.

    Scheduled Tasks
    Most of these found are usually auto-updates scheduled for programs that do not need them. They will make numerous internet connections every day, looking for updates that you can find manually. You want to keep these connection attempts as few as possible and then only if needed for the system. The only[/b[ auto-update I get is for the AV program.
    Opening scheduled tasks to modify or delete them:
    Access Scheduled Tasks with Click on Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Scheduled Tasks.
    To change the settings for a task: right-click the Task> click Properties> do any of the following:
    1. To change the schedule for the task, click the Schedule tab.
    2. To customize the settings for the task, such as the maximum run time, idle time requirements, and power management options, click the Settings tab.
    3. To delete a task> right-click the task> click Delete.
    4. To prevent a task from running until you want to let it run again> right-click the task> Properties> On the General tab> clear the Enabled check box. Select the check box again to enable the task when you are ready to let the task scheduler run it again.
    ===================================
    Suggest you stop the following tasks:
    2011-05-30 c:\windows\Tasks\PandaUSBVaccine.job
    - d:\program files\Panda USB Vaccine\RunInteractiveWin.exe [2011-05-14 04:45]
    .
    2011-05-30 c:\windows\Tasks\WGASetup.job
    - c:\windows\system32\KB905474\wgasetup.exe [2011-05-30 10:18]
    ==================================
    I don't see any security other that this: Panda Cloud Antivirus. Your system is not safe. Add a firewall and at least 2 antimalware programs.
    ===================================
    Uninstall all of the following:
    ====================================
    Update Java and Adobe Reader:
    Java Updates
    Adobe Reader site
    =================================================
    I'd like you to run the following. I found 'Virut' mentioned as a possibility for one of the entries. We need to check it out:
    • Make sure to use Internet Explorer for this
    • Please go to VirSCAN.org free on-line scan service
    • Copy and paste each of the following file paths into the "Suspicious files to scan" box on the top of the page, one at a time:
      Code:
          [b]c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe

          c:\windows\explorer.exe

          c:\window\system32\svchost.exe[/b]

      [/code]
      [*]Click on the [b]Upload[/b] button
      [*]If a pop-up appears saying the file has been scanned already, please select the [b]ReScan[/b] button.[*]Once the Scan is completed, click on the "[b]Copy to Clipboard[/b]" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
      [*]Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.[/list]

    Thanks.

    Yeah. I'm gonna be looking for another RAM card.

    I tried reseting the page file lower but didn't quite notice anything different.

    Right. Stopped them

    Hm.. That's strange.I have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed.

    Unistalled the programs you wanted me to remove.

    Here are the results of the scan.

    Okay good. I don't think there's anything more I can do for you. You simply haven got enough memory to run the system. More that all of it is in the age file, leaving nothing to run the programs and apps.
    =====================================
    Removing all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created
    • Uninstall ComboFix and all Backups of the files it deleted
    • Click START> then RUN
    • Now type Combofix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
      [IMG]
    • Download OTCleanIt by OldTimer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click OTCleanIt.exe.
    • Click the CleanUp! button.
    • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
    • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
    • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.
    -----
    Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

    Note: If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.
    ------------------------------------------
    • You should now set a new Restore Point and remove the old restore points to prevent infection from any previous Restore Points.
    • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools
    • Click "System Restore".
    • Choose "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next".
    • Give the Restore Point a name> click "Create".
    • Go back and follow the path to > System Tools.
      [*]Choose Disc Cleanup
      [*]Click "OK" to select the partition or drive you want.
      [*]Click the "More Options" Tab.
      [*]Click "Clean Up" in the System Restore section to remove all previous Restore Points except the newly created one.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

    Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Alright.

    Thanks for your time and effort in helping me!

    Really Appreciate it. :D

    P.S. I plan on trying Puppy Linux. I might switch back to XP when I get a new RAM card.
  8. Bobbye Helper on the Fringe

    You're welcome! Save up for the RAM.
