IDE cable question

    This is a stupid newb question and I am ashamed for asking, but I have two sets of Hardrive (blue) IDE cables, and my other IDE cable (for cd-roms etc) broke so I threw it out. Now could I just use my other Hardrive IDE cable in the same slot as the second Port? So it would be a blue cable in the blue slot, and another blue cable in the other IDE slot. I mean I will probably just go out and buy a second cable anyway, but I was just curious. would that work?
