If you can solve this you get beer

The PSU is 300W, and its a Aopen case+PSU.

The proccessor speed is 2.4ghz. I have put a less power hungry video card in the machine and the problem is gone.

Thanks

Yeah that's a problem bretty, 300W definitely isn't enough to power two incredibly power-hungry components, a P4 and an R300.

Heh. You know the problem is probably the little floppy power plug that goes into your 9700 - it's not getting enough power.

If this is it maybe in 6 years you could send me some beer :D

Where are you Vehementi?

The problem actually occured when using the Geforce3....Then I put the R300 back in (it was getting looked at by the store) and it still did it.

I am about to get and get a 450W PSU in a coupla days.....do you think thats enough?

450W is more than enough for that configuration. Especially since most systems use 320-350W currently with no problems. But I wouldn't go feeding it more power unless you have already looked at Mic's theory. Seems some people around here seem to think that a huge PSU can solve every problem. This is a careless way to troubleshoot. Look into the mobo problem Mic spoke of first, if what he said applies, then no matter how big a PSU you add, it still isn't going to work.

I have spoken to Gigabyte, and that issue has been resolved.

The power supply issue is with the actuall PSU itself. All i have to do is get a bigger one, and it should be fine.
Thanks for the concern though.

From what I could work out it was related to linear power regulator on the GA-7IXE4, whereas the current regular is a switching type. Anyway, for your information I am now running the following on an Enermax 350w Quiet PSU, so 450w should be more than enough, just make sure if you can to get an Enermax or ThermalTake PSU or other Quiet PSU, otherwise the fans on it will be louder than the rest of your system!
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (@1820Mhz) w/ ThermalRight SK6
GA-7VAXP with 6 USB, 3 firewire
512mb 2100 DDR
Asus v8200 Geforce 3
Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo 2
Maxtor Diamondmax 20Gb 5200rpm
2 x Seagate Barracuda IV 40Gb 7200rpm @ RAID 0
16x Toshiba DVD
19" Samsung 957DF Monitor, Logitech Cordless Optical Mouseman, Logitech Cordless Keyboard

Thanks Arris. I was looking at getting a quite PSU. See my machine is in my bedroom quite close to my bed.

I sometimes have to sleep with it on if it doing a heavy task. Quiet equals good!!
