hi there,
im having a problem with my vaio webcam.

most of times it doesnt work..
in the device manager it appears as "other drivers"
inside have two
1- 5U876 device
the device status says: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

2- unknow device (this one appeared after i tryed to install another driver, not from vaio website)
this one says: No drivers are installed for this device.
ps: after installing this second driver, the next day the camera was working again after a long time. then stoped again.

and every time i try to install it says windows couldnt install, or say this driver is for windows vista, eventhough i took from the right place for my model and OS in vaio website.

however rarely the cam with apparently no reason starts to work again.
then in the devices manager it apear as "image devices" if im not wrong
with these drivers: \arcsoftksufilter.sys
\ksthunk.sys
\usbvideo.sys

i already sent my laptop to the assistance they said they changed the webcam but the problem still

i checked in the system information/components/problem devices and shows this 5U876 device USB\VID_05CA&PID_18FF\5&354E63ED&0&2 The drivers for this device are not installed.

i already installed original config many times, also uninstalled and intalled the driver many times

please help me i most use my computer to video conference and at this moment im thinking in throw this @#$%^%^ in the river... thanks

I must admit your symptoms are odd and have me bewildered but will try and take a look.

1. What model Vaio do you have (i'd like to check on the Sony site myself)
2. See [post=939115]How To Report Your Computer's Device Manager Data[/post]. And provide me the data
3. And you have Vista installed? Including all the windows updates for it?

fyi.. Some reasons why your symptoms are odd:
1. If cam works sometimes and not other times, I would think more likely it's intermittent hardware problem
2. But when cam fails, that wouldn't uninstall the cam driver
3. Plus the driver files you listed (when it worked) would indicate its using usbvideo.sys which i believe indicates it's using the generic Windows driver usbvideo.sys which is always available
however rarely the cam with apparently no reason starts to work again.
then in the devices manager it apear as "image devices" if im not wrong
with these drivers: \arcsoftksufilter.sys
\ksthunk.sys
\usbvideo.sys

/* EDIT */
Also, did you try uninstalling and reinstall the ArcSoft companion software? I think it provides that arcsoftksufilter.sys file you see (it's a driver "filter". Filters are like driver assistants. They're supposed to work with, assist and extend the driver functionality)

i installed new arcsoft webcam program but still doesnt working TT
i will perform original factory software again as soon i get home today
i think its gonna be easier for u to help me
or should i update all the possibles updates
too bad this computer
im really disapointed with sony computers
i have another one (also vaio) that wirelless allways failing to connect internet.
but its another issue lets focus on this one hehe

From what i can tell, my GUESS is your cam uses the USB Video Class driver that comes in Windows 7. (Which also explains why Sony doesn't provide a driver for it on their website - since the driver comes in Win 7)

So try installing Win 7 Service Pack1 with all updates to assure you have the latest Windows drivers installed.

You might also try in DevMgr, right click the device -> Update Driver.

Otherwise, i'm not really sure what might be wrong (other then the cam hardware may also just be flaky - and you'd need get a new one)

Good luck!

lookingaround..
i have installed all possibles updates for my computer.
inclusive sony updates
and still dosnt working TT
u didnt find anything wrong with the document i sent to u?
im thinking it migth be some plug or wire with bad contact.. what do u think?
is that the same meaning of flaky as u said?
sorry, english is not my mother language
cuz ive sent my computer to repair and they said they changed something
im not sure now what but i think was the camera... sucks support sigh...
anyway..
thanks for the help
