UPDATE: So far we have been talking to the seller on eBay, and he says our best course of action is through Gateway, if they will honor the warranty. He is trying to find out whether they will or not considering he is not an authorized vendor of Gateway products.

If they don't we will be getting a refund from him, and I will be on the market for a new laptop yet again. =/

Usually, they will honor the warranty of the registered user. So if it has not been reported stolen, go to the Gateway website and change ownership to yourself with your address. You may need to find out the date of purchase or shipment, which is usually also available online at Gateway.
Gateway tech support now appears to be a contractor, rather than a Gateway person in South Dakota... but you might want to try that anyway.

Well, you didn't ask for my opinion either, but if you have not done so, it is important to have made a notice at the sellers site for this purchase.
The smartest thing to do, is to return it. It is apparently now what you paid for.

Sorry Raybay, I was directing that to the guy that offered useless information about how Gateway and Acer were junk. I should have quoted him. =/

But Gateway is going to service it. We're sending it in tomorrow. We talked to them on the phone for about an hour today and they decided to honor it.

EDIT: And that is not the seller I bought it from. The seller I bought it from said that it could be returned if dysfunctional and that it came with a 90 day warranty. I read the fine print. I didn't mean to sound mean or anything. =/

Thanks for the update. It is nice that Gateway is still performing the kind of follow-through they have always done for us in the past.

I got the laptop back last Friday, and it is up and running. They ended up replacing the mobo and processor, which solved the problem.

Acer was excellent with their service to the laptop, they didn't change anything I had. ;)

I would recommend them to anybody on the market for a new computer.

Fantastic mate, good to know Gateway were willing to follow it through all the way.

I hope you have a blast with that excellent laptop! :grinthumb
