Infected Laptop

  1. I have been told by best buy, where I bought my HP Laptop, that I have an "infection". They wanted more than $100.00 to take care of this for me. I picked it up and figured I could do it myself with some help. My first thought was to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. I am running Vista (which I hate) and do not use it for any personal banking or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My knowledge of computers is very limited so it will have to be explained kind of simple for me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

Thank you for the help. I do have Norton and thought I was protected. Not sure what happened. Also, part of the reason I took it back to the store was I could not get online. That's when they did a scan and found the infection. Can I save the info you gave me on a flash drive and then to my home laptop? I can only get online at work.
    Thanks again,
    Rob
