ATI started at 7000 I believe, then went up to 9800. Then it was reset as the X series, X200 going to X1950, then it was revamped again as the HD Series, Starting at HD 2400 and rounding off with the HD 4870x2 as of right now.

NVidia started with the Geforce 2, and went through the 3,4, 5-Series (FX5200-5900) 6 series (6100 to 6800) 7 series (7100 to 7950) then the 8 series (8200 to 8800) and the 9 Series (9200-9800GX2) and then it was revamped again as the GTX series, with cards from GTX 260 to the current king the GTX 295.
