Inspiron 9200 USB OS?

Hey i Have a Inspiron 9200 and a 40 gb external usb drive, does anyone know if its capable of running an OS through usb?
lol i would find out myself but im in the process of bypassing the BIOS loggin, (i bought it second hand) and i do know how i can short circuit a chip and erase the passwords so does anyone know if it can? id really likle to experiment with versions of Linux..Help would be appreciated

If you set your first boot device as usb device, it should work - this is done in bios.

ok but what if i wanna be able to revert back to my normal hard drive OS (windows) would i still be able to do that safely?
