Hi all,
I brought a new graphics card to put into my computer, but when i turn the computer on, the screen still stays black and the fan on the graphics card is on. I also don't hear any beeps from the computer. It is an AGP Card. It requires 300W.

I tried everything,
-Disabling internal graphics
-Taking out my sound card
-Use different power cable
-Updated bios to latest version...

Graphics card: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AGP_A_series/AH3450DI512MD2LP/#overview

Motherboard: 775VM800 - http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?model=775vm800
Ram: 2GB
Power source: 400W

Thanks,
Ahmad

Make sure the bios is set for AGP as the first or primary video source

Tried that yet problem is still persisting.

The AGP slots only handles 1.5V agp "1 AGP slot, supports 1.5V, 8X/4X AGP card" onto saying "Do NOT use a 3.3V AGP card on the AGP slot of this motherboard!
It may cause permanent damage!"

"Primary Graphics Adapter
This allows you to select [PCI] or [AGP] as the primary graphics adapter."
-Does this mean i can use a pci graphics card?

"-Does this mean i can use a pci graphics card?"

This referrers to your on-board graphics "Integrated S3 UniChrome Pro 3D/2D Graphics"... It is considered PCI in the bios. If the motherboard and the video card both support AGP 8X don't worry. Will the PC boot on using the on-board video? You can install a separate PCI video card if you have to. The AGP slot or card may also be bad...

The AGP slot works and the new graphics card should also work, could i power the new graphics card using an external power supply?

And I can use a PCI card as graphics?

"The AGP slot works and the new graphics card should also work, could i power the new graphics card using an external power supply?"...

How do you know that the AGP slot is good? No, you can't power the graphics card with an external supply...

"And I can use a PCI card as graphics?"

Yes! In one of the standard PCI slots. You didn't answer my question:

Thanks!

And yeah sorry it does boot using on board graphics

Have you tried another AGP card and it worked?. When you said that the computer has no beeps "I also don't hear any beeps from the computer" This tells me that the AGP card is bad or the power supply can't power the card, along with the rest of the computer at the same time... Wattage ratings on power supplies don't necessarily mean anything. You could try another power supply just to make sure that it is not the AGP card, especially if the 400 watt is over 3 years old

The graphics card im using currently is ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 Series which is AGP with 319.5mb video ram. It works perfectly.

I have another power supply which ill use to test it out in a bit.

Power Supplys:

It is a rather old system,
"And btw, if there isnt a card in the agp slot would the integrated graphics kick in?"...

I would think so. If not, the bios default video would have to be changed
