Installing Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS driver - No display

I have had to recently reinstall Windows Vista onto my laptop. In the Device Manager\Display Adapters all it says is 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' I know for a fact that my video card is Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS TurboCache, but when I install the driver for this I get a BSOD error. I tried the automatic search on nvidia.com/drivers and installed the driver that came up, the same happened. Is there a way to have Windows recognize my video card as the one stated above?

I would try going to the laptop manufacturer's website to look for the graphics driver. The one at Nvidia's website might work but the one that you would find at the manufacturer's site, if they have one, would likely work best.

I did download the mobile version. I'm really at a dead end as to what to do. And I've just tried it from the manufacturers website, still with no avail!

Are you uninstalling the graphics driver before you install each new one? Uninstall through Programs and Features, not Device Manager.
