I have installed a wireless card on a Compaq Presario 2200 laptop and tested it out with an antenna from a Toshiba A100 and an HP V6000 to no avail. (No networks found).

It also shows 'check to make sure the wireless switch is on'. This laptop has only got a plastic cover over where the switch would normally be, so is there any way to get the machine to use the new wireless without having to find a little switch for it?

    Cheers

You need to use a USB wireless adapter with the proper software installed

Surely there's a way to get it running? there's a need to not have a wireless card / stick poking out of the machine.

    mini pci wifi

was looking into this for my laptop, easy enough to fit antenas inside the case and fit a mini pci wifi card.

    think there are 2 issues.

whether the manufacturer supports the card

whether you can use a software switch to turn the card on/off

It works. For some completely unexplained and unknown reason the thing works! Picks up and connects to our home network no worries. Not entirely sure why now, maybe a extra restart was required?
