Intel has added a new ultra-low voltage Celeron model to its processor lineup. The Intel Celeron 787 is a single core part clocked at 1.3GHz with 1MB L3 cache and a TDP of just 17W. It's built on the 32nm Sandy Bridge architecture, and as such it integrates a graphics core, albeit the slower HD 2000 series with tuned down clock speeds of 350MHz core. There's no Hyper Threading or Turbo Boost, only basic technologies like Virtualization and Intel 64.
Considering the low TDP that Intel is working with here and the $107 price tag, the Celeron 787 is a pretty good option for budget systems. If you are craving for something a bit more powerful, though, Intel is also planning to launch four new Core i7 chips in the coming months. The upcoming quartet, which is expected to arrive in Q4, includes three quad-core models -- the i7-2960XM Extreme Edition, i7-2860QM and i7-2760QM -- and the dual-core i7-2640M.
The i7-2960XM EE is the faster of the bunch at 2.7GHz with a Turbo frequency of 3.7GHz. It supports 8 threads with 8MB of L3 cache and has a 55W TDP. The Core i7-2860QM is similar in some respects except for the lower 45W TDP, 2.5GHz (3.6GHz Turbo) clock speeds, and the fact that it doesn't come with an unlocked multiplier. Meanwhile, the Core i7-2760QM maintains a 45W TDP but drops frequencies to 2.4GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) and only carries 6MB of L3 cache.
Lastly, the dual core Core i7-2640M supports 4 threads, runs at 2.8GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) with 4MB of L3 cache and has a 35W TDP. All four chips include Intel's integrated HD 3000 graphics core clocked at 650 MHz (up to 1300 MHz in Turbo model). Pricing is yet to be disclosed for these models.
