  1. After first showing up on a UK retailer's website late last week, Intel's new hexa-core Core i7-970 processor is now listed and in stock at Newegg for $900 with free shipping. As previously reported, it is based on the same 32nm Gulftown build as the slightly more expensive Core i7 980X Extreme, but Intel has scaled back the base clock speed from 3.33GHz to 3.2GHz and dropped the unlocked multiplier. All other specifications are pretty much identical on both chips.

At this new price i7 870 do look very tempting for a new build, if i have to do it today. I wouldn't bother recommending i5 750 to anyone anymore, because those 80+$ are worth spending on 8xx series processor. Or if someone is willing part with bit more of their cash i7 875K is a good processor for 1156 socket.

And then Intel dropped the prices on all Core 2 Quads to $25!

Woo now I can get a quad core without upgrading my mobo :p
