Intel Pentuim 4 1.7ghz vs Intel Celeron 2.4ghz

they are both 478 pins..i bought it off ebay... i want to know should i replace the celeron with it?

Easy question if they are the same speed, but this will be a close one...

You didn't mention which 2.4 celeron. There are a couple. Anyway, the P4 and Celeron have different feature sets so it will depend on your usage. You could review datasheets on intel.com.

... or just experiment. I think you'll be about 5% happier with the P4 (but I have a Pentium D 950)

Yeah, I'd agree with PD, but even though it is a P4, that doesn't mean it is going to be better. From the looks of it, it would be a VERY close race between the two, but at least you didn't pay out the ying yang for it

My bet, the P4, but not by much at all..

If the Celeron is a celeron D CPU, no doubt, the celeron D is the best one.

If it is a northwood celeron, I would choose the P4. I had a 2.6GHZ northwood celeron and it was easily beaten by a P4 1.6 GHZ.
