    A close one.

Easy question if they are the same speed, but this will be a close one...

You didn't mention which 2.4 celeron. There are a couple. Anyway, the P4 and Celeron have different feature sets so it will depend on your usage. You could review datasheets on intel.com.

    ... or just experiment. I think you'll be about 5% happier with the P4 (but I have a Pentium D 950)

Yeah, I'd agree with PD, but even though it is a P4, that doesn't mean it is going to be better. From the looks of it, it would be a VERY close race between the two, but at least you didn't pay out the ying yang for it :p

My bet, the P4, but not by much at all..

If the Celeron is a celeron D CPU, no doubt, the celeron D is the best one.

If it is a northwood celeron, I would choose the P4. I had a 2.6GHZ northwood celeron and it was easily beaten by a P4 1.6 GHZ.
