Interesting Spyware Article

Very interesting article jshields13.

If only people would stick to the tried and trusted applications and stay away from p2p software.

Unfortunately I don`t think it`ll ever happen.

How many people even bother to do a little research, before they download something?

Regards Howard :)

One p2p program is spyware-infested, so they should all be abandoned? I think not. If one does the little bit of research, as you're suggesting they should, they would find that many (if not most) p2p programs are completely safe.

Still, Kazaa IS a piece of crap.

Well, if there are any safe p2p programmes, I don`t know what they are.

I know that we get lots of problems, in our security and the web forum, due to p2p programmes themselves or the use of such programmes.

Limewire is one such p2p programme, that seems to cause lots of problems.

ALL P2P programs are crap simply because:

A) Most people use them to get illegal files

B) You can NEVER trust the files anyway because the content is not monitored

C) The program itself is very likely infested with adware, along with, usually, a requirement to force you to host files yourself. Thus making you an illegal file server.

And lastly, for those P2P programs that remove the adware, of course those are hacks themselves, similar to Kazza Lite for example. Plus the fact that these programs don't let you find "new" files that are NOT illegal, because you have to specifically search for what you want. And how can you search for something you don't know about? Thus, used mostly for illegal file downloading, and of course porn.

Maybe others' opinions differ from mine. But speaking only from experience and the hundreds of PCs I've seen that have some P2P software, it was only used for illegal music downloading and porn. I've NEVER seen a P2P program on a person's computer which didn't have illegal content.

Anyhow, rant over.

The number pi is irrational (cannot be expressed as a ratio of two integers). That means if you express it in base 2, somewhere contained in that string of 1s and 0s, are all the illegal music files that will ever be made. Obviously the RIAA should get a cut every time someone uses pi.

The eDonkey network isn't infested with viruses, and has many rare things. I was able to find the 1258-page service manual for my car, which basically explains how to take apart the entire car and put it back together again. I also found entertaining footage of rally car crashes. There are actually legal things to get on p2p networks.
