The false anti-virus application, SmartEngine, was installed on our home PC about a week ago. I followed instructions that I found to disable, then remove the application at the following URL (http://www.softsailor.com/how-to/46882-how-to-remove-uninstall-smart-engine-virus-removal-guide.html). After removing the application, replacing the HOST file for Windows Vista, and verifying that all of the files associated with the application had been removed, my internet connection remains disabled. In addition, it appears that no restore points had been created, so using System Restore is not an option. I am unsure of the next step to regain an internet connection and would greatly appreciate any assistance.
