I had to uninstall firefox as it had changed to the ask.com search engine and was not working properyl for sum reason so when i uninstalled it i have not been able to connect to the internet since. Internet explorer is non responsive so i tried installing my internet provider disk which says im connected and loads up the icons but i when i click on them to connect still nothing happens. Also my sytem restore points do not work either but the laptop im suing connects no problem so must be something stupid on the pc that needs sorted out. Will it need formatted and a clean start again?

If you cannot access the internet, please download the following programs to a flash drive then run them on the problem computer. Whether you have other malware or not, ask.com entries will need to be removed.
If you would like us to check the system for malware, please follow the steps in the Preliminary Virus and Malware Removal thread HERE.
NOTE: If you already have any of the scanning programs on the computer, please remove them and download the versions in these links.
When you have finished, leave the logs for review in your next reply .

- File sharing programs should be uninstalled or disabled during the cleaning process..
