ok so i got a new computer, a dell desktop, and i tried downloading setup files for things like mac flash and other plugins. everything i download goes at a ridiculously slow pace of 40-100 Kbps. which is very very bad. my friend brings over a linux cd trying to figure if its software or hardware issues, and when he went to download a larger file, it went at 5-7Mbps. so he said its a software problem. i use opera if that means anything. any idea how to make it faster? thanks

Which Dell model, and how much memory is installed on what operating system... Windows 7?

Try this bandwidth test on your ISP connection first.

its a dell inspiron 530

the speed test shows my download speed at 1 mbps, upload speed is 768

Test using Internet Explorer, so you have a common language with whomever you discuss this problem at Dell. Many will not be trained on Opera... though Opera is faster.

you want to be careful not to do any big fixes while it is under warranty, as that may void the warranty.
