i was wondering if it is possible to get an ip form an email that is sent? or from AIM or Yahoo IM?

thanx

Sure, you can get an IP from anywhere, you can even make one up. The question is, whether it is the IP address that you are interested in :p

With e-mail, it would have to be sent from that person's computer. Letters from GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo mail or any other web-based service are sent from the web server and there is no way you can know where the actual sender was.

With instant messaging, you would have to do some direct file transfer or a direct webcam session or direct voice chat to get the IP of the other end.

Use any network monitor program like netstat, TCPView, windump, whatever.

Mind you, it has to be a direct connection - "super webcam" in Yahoo! terminology.
