Hello,

I know the title is a bit vague, but I would like to know if my current BenQ DVD DD DW1640 ATA Device is a good enough optical drive, or if it needs some upgrading.

Thanks

The way i see it bud is if it works...It's good enough. I bought a Lite-On SATA DVD-RW a few month back because my old ATA blew on me. It aint no different in my opinion.

As long as it plays all my discs (DVDs, CDs..ect) it's fine. Obviously if i want to play bluray and it can't, then it aint good enough, simple as that.

Some people probably think that you HAVE to have the latest, fastest drive around; but for me, It's the part of the PC that's just simply black or white (works or doesn't).

I wouldn't worry about upgrading it. Just keep it until it fails or you buy a motherboard that doesn't have an IDE channel on it.

Thanks guys. SNGX, I have to check if the GA-990FXA-UD5 has an IDE channel. Totally forgot about the IDE channel.
